Is a social media manager right for you?

Could hiring a manager be the right choice?

Social media managers (SMM) can be pretty iffy in my book. And this is coming from someone who used to be one! They are either super expensive and take a lot of time to train on your brand or they are inexpensive, take a lot of time to train on your brand and underperform. It's the "takes a lot of time to train on your brand" bit that's the hold up.

My biggest problem as a SMM was always getting information from my clients - it was like pulling teeth. Getting to know them and their brand was really hard. They just wanted to hand off the task of social media. Enter, my coaching business. You as a small business owner/manager know your brand best so let's just teach you a few skills to get you on the social media train.

While this idea still has incredible merit and I can sell it to you in my sleep, it isn't for everyone. My client had just started his business and was slammed running from one thing to the next and he felt like social media was super heavy even though he understood the usefulness. So, I worked with him and we got him to a level of fluency with Facebook and Instagram but he clearly wasn't going to keep it up without weekly support. Enter the SMM.

While I think it's the right choice for him at this moment, I would always caution that this isn't necessarily an easy button, there is still work to do on your end. You have to be able and willing to share information and brand guidelines to make it a successful partnership.

One unintentional product my 30-Day Challenge created was essentially a package that you could hand off to a manager. You have your goals, your ideal client, your content pillars and an example calendar ready to go, which is wildly helpful when someone is managing part of your online presence.

"Big gulp, huh?" My daughter and I took a trip to Beaufort, NC a few weekends ago and we stopped at 7/11 for snacks. Dumb and Dumber pops into my mind every time. So thankful for the 90s that fostered masterpieces like these. "Well, see ya later!"

To clarity + confidence, friends!
